Stability by Design: How ARSOF Culture Empowers the Operator and Anchors the Household

Military service is built on a shared cultural identity. Conversations across the force often default to the concept that every Soldier is part of one Army. All Soldiers, from Stryker infantrymen to Special Forces weapons sergeants, share the foundational identity represented by the U.S. Army nametape worn above their heart. Likewise, every Soldier is bound by the same oath and serves the same Constitution. However, this shared foundation overshadows the profound organizational and cultural differences between the conventional force and Army special operations forces (ARSOF).

Guns AND Butter: How SOF’s enduring relationships provide value for the Joint Force

The United States’ most significant advantage against its adversaries in the competition space is its allies and partners, who have become more vulnerable to adversarial influence. U.S. allies and international partners have increasingly succumbed to (and even welcomed) partnerships under China’s Belt Road Initiative (BRI) or arms sales with Russia. The battle to seize control of narratives in the information and human dimension will be paramount to maintaining the U.S.’ competitive advantage.

The Missing Link? Modernizing the Role of the Special Forces Company in Combat

To prepare for LSCO on the 21st century battlefield, the often-overlooked SF Company Headquarters (SFOD-B) should be modernized to model the autonomous SOF Tactical Group employed by Ukraine against Russian force. This Modernized SFOD-B should include multi-domain assets including UAS and EW units of action to operate independently behind enemy lines. Once properly task-organized, the Modernized SFOD-B should be tested and refined at Combat Training Centers to prepare for the SF Regiment for the future fight at echelons above the SFOD-A.
